A GROUP OF 116 ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SPECIALISTS CAME TO TURKEY BY A CUSTOMER FLIGHT FROM RUSSIA ON JUNE 1 TO WORK AT THE AKKUYU NPP SITE

All the workers were tested for coronavirus before departure from Russia and were temporarily isolated before the flight. The Turkish part enabled Russian specialists to comply with all necessary safety precautions after they landed in Adana airport. A separate terminal was assigned; specialists have undergone a medical check-up. All employees were transferred to their temporary place of residence.

 

Thanks to the support of Turkish authorities, the workers are currently quarantined in a separate hotel building under strict observation of medical doctors and relevant organizations for 14 days. Each worker resides separately following social isolation rules. After the quarantine period is over, the Turkish side will re-test the personnel for COVID-19. After this, the Russian specialists will be admitted to work in accordance with all occupational safety and health norms and requirements in place at the Akkuyu NPP site.

 

Akkuyu Nuclear JSC extends its gratitude to the Government of the Turkish Republic and Adana and Mersin Governorships for all the precautions taken and their comprehensive support provided to Russian specialists that have arrived in Turkey. The company continues to ensure the health and safety of the staff working on the Akkuyu NPP construction site, taking all the necessary precautions to diminish the effects of the epidemiological crisis on Turkey’s first NPP construction and entirely fulfil its obligations to the Turkish side within the timeframe as stipulated in the Intergovernmental Agreement. Akkuyu Nuclear JSC follows the advice of the Turkish Republic’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the state’s other governmental authorities.

 

Despite the partial cancellation of the restrictive measures that have been implemented in Turkey due to COVID-19 outbreak, the strict measures at the Akkuyu NPP construction site remain in effect in compliance with the 2020/3 numbered Presidency Circular. There are no COVID-19 cases detected among the Russian specialists who came to Turkey on April 22 and May 21 to work at the Akkuyu NPP site. After self-isolation period ended all employees were re-tested and underwent medical examination based on which they started to work on site.
