AKKUYU NPP CAN OBTAIN THE CONSTRUCTION LICENSE IN THE END OF 2014

The Construction License for Akkuyu NPP is to be obtained at the turn of 2014. Mr. Alexander Superfin, Chief Executive Officer of Akkuyu NPP Power Generation JSC, has voiced this at the 37th Symposium of the World Nuclear Association held in London on September 12-14, 2012. «After getting the license we’ll start a real construction – concrete laying and etc.” – said Mr. A. Superfin.

According to him the project implementation is on schedule: the on-site engineering surveys will be completed over the next couple months, and they will be followed by very “intensive analysis” of all obtained findings to incorporate their results into the EIA Report. The positive decision regarding the EIA and the Generation License are to be obtained in the middle of the following year, and that lets initiate the mobilization activities on-site.

Mr. A. Superfin also noted that the “AES-2006” Project to be implemented at the Akkuyu NPP site under the Intergovernmental Agreement would be “slightly modified” with regard to the site seismicity and additional safety arrangements. He stated that the slow-speed turbine manufactured by “Alstom-Atomenergomach” would be used at Akkuyu NPP. Further the cost optimization would among the project management tasks. «If we previously declared the nominal value of four units as USD 20 bln., the more accurate figure is USD 18.7 bln.” – noted Mr. A. Superfin. And he did not exclud the further reduction in value after the design completion scheduled for the middle of the next year.
