AKKUYU NPP IS THE LARGEST EMPLOYER OF MERSIN PROVINCE

June 4, 2022, Buyukeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – The Social Security Institution (SGK) of Turkey acknowledged Akkuyu NPP as the largest employer in the province of Mersin and awarded AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC management with a letter of appreciation. The event was arranged within the scope of “Social Security Week”. 

A delegation of SGK Mersin regional branch representatives headed by the branch Director Ali Koç visited Akkuyu NPP construction site to submit the award. Ali Koç expressed his gratitude to AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC management for being highly productive in employing the residents of the region and said they were looking forward to further fruitful cooperation.

AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC contributes to the development of the economy and infrastructure of the region. According to the statistics, one job at a nuclear power plant creates 10 more jobs in related industries, including education and other services in the NPP construction area.

“Akkuyu NPP project has become the regional leader and number one employer in Mersin since the very beginning of active construction works. More than 20 thousand people work at the construction site, including experts, workers, engineers, and specialists of other various professions. Receiving an award from the Social Security Institution of Turkey is an acknowledgment of all our achievements gained through these years. The Human Resources Department of our company is constantly working on improving their personnel policies, that is why employment and adaptation of new employees are carried out with special care and in accordance with the Turkish law. We collaborate with the administration of the Gulnar district in implementing a program for employing local residents, together we created a center for targeted employment. More than 600 residents of the district are already working at the NPP construction site,” AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC CEO Anastasia Zoteeva noted.

The assessment of AKKUYU NUCLEAR's achievements as the main employer of the NPP construction site was carried out according to four criteria; the total number of employees, the amount of insurance premium payments to SGK, women’s employment, creation of an inclusive environment and employment of people with disabilities. In all respects, Akkuyu NPP is the clear leader of the region.
