July 11, 2022, Buyukeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – On July 9, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha holiday, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC organized a festive event at the Akkuyu NPP construction site.

Construction workers were served with treats like sweets and beverages and received memorable souvenirs from AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC CEO. A special menu was served during the lunch break in all canteens on the construction site.

AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC CEO Anastasia Zoteeva in her congratulation message particularly emphasized the meaning of the workers’ labour: “For quite a while work on our site has not stopped even on holidays. Everything that we see now, we did together. Power units, which will provide electricity to our homes and many businesses, are being built one after another. We are a big working family! And the fact that on the holiday we continue to work for prosperity and creation, for the happy future of next generations, deserves special gratitude and deepest respect to you!

Hasan Sunbul, Imam of the mosque in Buyukeceli, the nearest settlement to the nuclear power plant, who was specially invited on the occasion of the holiday, congratulated all the construction workers on the holiday and held a prayer.

Nuclear power plant builders shared their opinion on the event and on the work at the NPP construction site.

Erhan Yigitalp, rebar fitter, Diyarbakır province: “I am working on the construction site of the fourth power unit, our team is now working on foundation reinforcing. Akkuyu NPP project is a great opportunity for employment, and I think that the people of the region should take advantage of it, because the construction will go on for several more years. Comfortable working conditions have been created on the site. I have excellent relationships with colleagues and managers, so work is a pleasure. As for today's event, I was pleasantly surprised. For us, the builders, it is very important to feel the care and support from the project management, we were all touched by the congratulations from the general director of the company. We had a great time dancing folk dances! Thanks to everyone who organized this event for us and gave us a sense of celebration, despite the fact that today is our working day.”

Baran Korkmaz, rebar fitter, Mardin province: “Everything went very well, we had a lot of fun and relaxed, many thanks to the organizers! At the construction site we have a very friendly team. Words cannot express how proud I am to work here! I am confident that Akkuyu NPP will bring great benefits to the Turkish economy and friendly relations with Russia.”

Resit Ates, fitter, Adana province: “I have been on site for nine months now and I am very happy that I got the chance to work on such a large international project that will benefit Turkey. When construction is completed, they will talk about it and write about it everywhere – in the news on TV, in newspapers, on the Internet. And then I will be even more proud to tell everyone – my friends, relatives, fellows – that I worked at this construction site, that there is a piece of my work in the first nuclear power plant in our country.”
