September 8, 2021, Mersin Province, Gulnar District, Turkey. - In Mersin where the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey Akkuyu NPP is underway, entertainment activities were organized for children at the beginning of the new academic year on September 6. The activities were held with the support of Gulnar Governorship, Gulnar Municipality and District National Education Directorate.


Activities were held in the primary and secondary school in Buyukeceli village, the closest residential area to NPP construction site, as well as in Yuzuncu Yil and Cumhuriyet schools in Gulnar district center. Children had a lot of fun in the event where various games and competitions were organized by professional animator groups. Especially the soap bubble show and muppet show caught the great attention of the children. Additionally, children participated in master classes where they did sand painting, origami and crafts. During the events, apple candy, popcorn and bagels were served to the participants.


The celebration event organized for students of Yuzuncu Yil School in Gulnar were attended by Gulnar District Governor Yunus Emre Bayraklı, Gulnar Mayor Alparslan Unuvar, Head of District National Education Directorate Huseyin Kadim and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Director of Communications Kiyra J. Staples.


Yunus Emre Bayrakli who made a speech for the participants said: “I congratulate all students on the beginning of the new academic year, and wish them success. I would like to extend my gratitude to AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC as well as teachers and school principals in our region, for making the very first day of the academic year a real holiday for the children.”


Eyyup Lutfi Sarici, the regional communications department expert of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC said: “Nuclear power plant is being built in Gulnar district. It will serve the population of the region for many years. The plant will employ approximately 4 thousand people and create employment opportunities in other industries for ten thousands, which means that a city with approximately thirty thousands of people will grow near the NPP construction site and you will seize the wide range of employment opportunities as the future’s engineers, teachers and doctors. I sincerely wish you success in your works and future professional activities!”


Al three event venues were equipped with special information booths where the employees of the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Directorate of Communications were telling children about nuclear energy in entertaining way and distributed brochures and souvenirs.


AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC plays a great role in the social life of the region of the nuclear power plant construction. The company carries out environmental initiatives and holds arts, sports and environmental events for the local people on a regular basis.
