November 26, 2022, Yeşilovacık, Aydıncık, Mersin Province, Turkey. – Employees of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC joined "Breath of the Future", an environmental project, and planted pine seedlings in Aydıncık and Aydıncık districts, which are located near the Akkuyu NPP Construction Site. The event arranged by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry took placed in all Turkish regions.


As Anastasia Zoteeva, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, noted, "One of the main business principles of our company is environmental protection. Last year and this summer firefighters of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC provided support to the emergency services of Mersin Province in fighting wildfires, and today our employees helped restore the affected woodland located in the nuclear power plant construction area. When Akkuyu NPP is commissioned, it will greatly contribute to preserving the green future; its operation will allow to prevent about 17 million tons of СО2 emissions annually".

Silifke Mayor Sadık Altunok, Silifke Kaimakam Abdullah Aslaner, representatives of public organizations and political parties, and regional school students participated in the event. 


Hasan Aslan, Head of Silifke Forestry Authority: "Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan established the National Forestation Day in 2019. Since then, traditional tree-planting events "Breath of the Future" have been taking place on November 11 every year. Unfortunately, our region was severely affected by wildfires this year, so now we are facing an important task of restoring the affected forest. Such events help draw attention to this problem. Together we planted 3000 pine seedlings; the Mediterranean coast is pine's conventional habitat. I sincerely thank everyone who has joined our event today".

Sinem Dogan, forestry specialist:  "It is crucial to restore the woodland after last year's wildfires. It is great that Russian and Turkish employees of Akkuyu NPP have joined us on this important day. Today we have worked as a team! We have made our small contribution to the green future of our planet. I deeply thank Akkuyu NPP employees for their participation and support".

AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC has been participated in the environmental events aimed at forestation in the nuclear power plant construction region on a regular basis since 2016. The company's employees participate in the similar events before, which took place in Mersin, Bogsak district, Büyükeceli, Aydıncık, Silifke and Emirler Village, Mersin Province.
