INFORMATION NOTICЕ

October 8, 2021, Gülnar District, Mersin Province, Turkey. – On October 8, due to a fault in the vehicle operating procedure of the subcontracting organization which is engaged in rendering transportation services at the Akkuyu NPP construction site, short-term difficulties occurred in regard to transportation of a group of workers from the access control checkpoint to their workplaces within the site boundaries. As the result, a group of workers had had to go to their workplaces on foot.

In order to avoid the recurrence of similar cases, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC is undertaking all and any measures required to ensure the operability of the motor vehicles operation procedure, as well as to reduce the load on the operational access control post checkpoint, in close cooperation with contracting and subcontracting organizations.

Mete Bastırmacı, representative of the general contractor of Akkuyu NPP construction and program co-director of TİTAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, commented on the situation: "This morning a fault in the bust traffic occurred at the entrance to the access control post checkpoint. In order to avoid a congestion of people around the access control post checkpoint, workers had to go to their workplaces on foot. This is a routine situation. The vehicle traffic has been restored. We are undertaking all and any measures required to prevent the re-occurrence of similar situations in future".

The Akkuyu NPP construction site has a specially protected area status. Special attention is paid to security issues (namely, passage of all employees and control over entry and exit of motor vehicles). In order to prevent similar difficulties, a second point of entry to the site, roads and the related infrastructure are currently being built.

In order to reduce the load on the access control checkpoint during peak hours and improve its traffic capacity, a system of dividing human and vehicle flows by the time of arrival at the access control post checkpoint has already been implemented. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC and TİTAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, a joint venture and general contractor of Akkuyu NPP construction, has drawn up a special timetable of arrival of employees and workers of subcontracting organizations to the access control post checkpoint, which will help to reduce the peak load on checkpoints.
