International Conference timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the nuclear industry opened in Obninsk (Russia)

 

The International Scientific Conference “NPP: yesterday, today, tomorrow” timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the putting into operation of the first NPP in the world started its work in the city of Obninsk where the NPP operated almost half a century and which is considered as the nuclear power engineering birthplace. 27th June 1954 was the date when the Obninsk NPP generated first industrial electricity. Thereby the way for peaceful use of the atomic energy has been opened.

 

Lev Kochetkov, Advisor of the Directorate of A.I. Leipunsky Institute of Physics and Power Engineering and participant of the Obninsk NPP construction, made an opening speech at the Conference. Alexander Lokshin and Vyacheslav Pershukov, Deputies CEO of Rosatom State Corporation, Vladimir Asmolov, Deputy Director General of Concern Rosenergoatom OJSC, Leonid Bolshov, Director of Nuclear Safety Institute, Russian Academy of Science, Yaroslav Shtrombakh, Deputy Director for Nuclear Technologies of Kurchatov Institute, made speeches on various aspects of the nuclear energy in Russia and abroad. Among the speakers are: Dzhomart Aliev, CEO of Rusatom Overseas, Petr Lavrenjuk, Senior Vice-President of TVEL fuel company, Alexey Dub, Director General of TsNIITMASh OJSC, Oleg Krukov, Governing Board Director for Public Policy on RAW, SNF Management and Nuclear Decommissioning, Valery Bezzubtsev, Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor. Meetings of the nuclear industry’s veterans, round tables at different sites of the city of Obninsk and technical tours will be held as the Conference’s integral parts.
