At the meeting with the mass media representatives, Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Varank noted, "Akkuyu NPP has been a long-held dream for Turkey; a dream of already 60 years. Few are aware that the initial license for the Akkuyu NPP site was issued back in 1976. And now, at last, we can see how the work is currently being conducted here, at the construction site of power units of the first NPP in our country. From the point of view of our Ministry, this project is not just a large-scale construction; first and foremost, we are interested in the localization process, in the contribution that the NPP will make to the development of the Turkish industry. And in this respect, it is very important that the nuclear technologies contribute to development of related industries. Today we have visited the impressive, in terms of its scale, construction site of Akkuyu NPP – a project that will provide our industrial sector with serious competitive advantages. We are continuing active work, aiming to make Turkey a country, which will be able to independently manufacture products applicable in the nuclear technology sector."

Under the restrictions connected with the COVID-19 pandemic, the visit was held with strict observance of anti-epidemic measures: upon arrival at the site, body temperature readings were taken for any and all members of the delegation, accompanying persons and journalists. At the site, participants of the visit were wearing medical face masks; the seating during the meeting was arranged with observance of the social distancing rules.
