December 28, 2022, Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – Three New Year events took place at the Akkuyu NPP Construction Site for the first time in the project's history. Children of the project employees, primary school 1-4 grade students, were invited to the site to participate in the festive events together with traditional Russian fairy-tale characters, including Father Frost and Snow Maiden.

The hall was equipped and decorated for the event. In particular. Canteen for Akkuyu NPP construction personnel turned into a venue for a vivid New Year show for two days. Christmas trees were placed everywhere, and the ceiling was decorated with garlands and snowflakes. A separate room was allocated for workshop sessions on decorating gingerbread and carving decorative paper snowflakes. A giant wall featuring outlines of the New Year symbols, such as Christmas tree, Father Frost and other holiday attributes, was installed for kids who like colouring.

AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Chief Executive Officer Anastasia Zoteeva came up with the idea of on-site party for children and became its originator. At the beginning of the show, her short video message with holiday greetings was broadcasted: "I suppose you will have a wonderful holiday. Do not forget to take pictures with Father Frost, and then show me your pictures. Happy New Year, my dear ones! May it be an unforgettable holiday and miraculous show for you. Have fun! And, of course, be healthy, happy, and smart in the new year. Make your mothers and fathers happy, and let them enjoy this wonderful holiday together with you!"

The event program included a theatrical performance with fairy-tale characters, contests, riddles, round dances around the New Year tree, and, of course, dancing. Each performance ended with a "paper disco": special fans scattered confetti and paper rain all over the hall.

Photo area was equipped next to the main hall, where the children and their parents took pictures in Father Frost sleigh, with the New Year tree at the background. At each performance the jury chose the costume contest winner in three categories: "Exact Copy", "Symbol of the Year" and "The Most Original Costume".

More than 600 children of the project employees attended the New Year events at the Akkuyu NPP Site. Each child received a gift – a set of gingerbread and colourful coating to decorate it.

Gölmak İnşaat Chief Executive Officer Mustafa Ekmen: "My children attended the New Year party for the first time, and they enjoyed it very much. This is the advantage of working as a multi-national team: Russian specialists celebrate Ramazan Bayram and Kurban Bayram with us, while we get acquainted with Russian culture, and that helps us getting to know each other better I would like to thank the organizers for making such a great gift to children!"

AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Expert Andrey Mikhalevsky: "We expected to see Santa Claus, but it was the real Father Frost who met children in his traditional red fur coat, which was a pleasant surprise. All the children were engaged throughout the holiday event – splitting them into groups was a great idea. Some of them attended workshop sessions, while others participated in the costume contest or recited poems. My daughter participated in gingerbread painting, engaged in the round dance and received a gift – the holiday event was a success!"

Elena Ushakova, a housekeeper: "Our grade-one student attended such a magnificent New Year celebration in Turkey for the first time. Our child was looking forward to the show and getting ready for it by learning a poem. The celebration exceeded all our expectations. Congratulations by Anastasia Zoteeva from the snowy forest, elegantly decorated photo areas, various treats, a performance with fairy-tale characters, workshop sessions, a splendid New Year Tree, transfer service for both children and adults, and gifts – everything was thoroughly thought out. I would like to thank the team that arranged such a tremendous holiday event!"

Elis Dagdelen, Grade 2 student: "I attended the holiday event with my female classmates and I liked it very much! We were treated with a delicious food before the start of the show. Then, we coloured a huge colouring wall, decorated gingerbread, sang and danced with fairy-tale characters. I even read a poem to Father Frost, and he gave me a gift. It appears that my mom's job is anything but boring!".

Ilya Shvetsov, Grade 3 student: "When it started snowing hard, it was very unexpected! That was certainly something nobody would expect! Thanks for the treats and the gift I received for the poem addressed to Father Frost ".

For reference:

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant being built in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units equipped with Generation 3+ VVER reactors of Russian design. The capacity of each NPP power unit will be 1200 MW. Currently, the project is entirely financed by the Russian side. Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry being implemented in accordance with the Build-Own-Operate model.

According to the terms and conditions of the Inter-Governmental Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey, the NPP's first power unit is supposed to be commissioned within 7 years after obtaining all unit-construction permits and licenses. Given that the construction license for Unit 1 was obtained in 2018, the deadline is 2025. At the same time, the project stakeholders are making their best efforts to complete the construction of Unit 1 and ensure its readiness for commissioning test in 2023, a jubilee year for the Republic of Turkey.
