POLAR CRANE FOR UNIT 1 MOUNTED ON AKKUYU NPP SITE


August 19, 2022, Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – A polar crane was mounted in design position at Akkuyu NPP Power Unit No. 1. The mounting operation was carried out using a Liebherr LR 13000 crane and took about four hours. The mounting of the polar crane will allow performing further work for installation of the reactor compartment internal containment dome, mounting the process equipment, and preparation for water circulation with the open reactor.

After the project management has decided to reorganize the construction work stakeholders, namely to terminate the contract with TİTAN 2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ (Т2IC), subcontracting organizations are actively engaging in the process of resigning contracts with TSM ENERJİ İNŞAAT SANAYİ LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ (TSM), new general contractor for construction of Akkuyu NPP Power Units. As of August 5, 2022, most construction-and-installation work contractors have already concluded contracts with TSM to perform their scopes of works. The contract resigning with the remaining subcontractors is expected in the offing.

This is one of the key stages in the main equipment assembly. Prior to RPV installation, the “core catcher” was mounted at Unit 1, concreting of the support and thrust trusses was carried out, and dry shielding and thermal insulation of the reactor vessel cylindrical part were installed. The equipment was located in the 9th step of the slope near the switchyard area. In the meantime, it was seen that the firefighters were fast to respond to the situation and performed routine drill, coming directly to the area to initiate correct procedures to control the occurrence.

January 20, 2020, Büyükeceli, Mersin province. On January 19, planned drilling and blasting operations were carried out by a subcontracting company on the construction of a reserve access road to the Akkuyu NPP construction site. As a result window glass were broken in several residential buildings in the village of Büyükeceli. Two people received minor injuries caused by the scattering of window glass pieces. The injured received prompt first aid on site. Health care teams, gendarmerie officers and other response teams are working at the location of the incident. Distribution of hot food has been organized for residents of damaged houses. Local authorities and law enforcement bodies are making assessment of the damage made to the houses of local residents. Based on the results of the assessment the damage will be reimbursed.

RPV FOR POWER UNIT 1 DELIVERED TO AKKUYU NPP

 

Equipment of major importance for Power Unit 1 – the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) – has been delivered to the Akkuyu NPP site today, having covered a distance of 3,000 kilometers. The RPV is large-size equipment, which, at the NPP operation stage, accommodates nuclear fuel, and where a nuclear reaction involving liberation of a high amount of heat takes place under high pressure.

The reactor pressure vessel dry shielding, a safety component providing reliable NPP operation in emergencies including earthquakes of intensity up to 9 points, has been installed at Unit 1. SHIPMENT OF STEAM GENERATORS FOR AKKUYU, THE FIRST NPP IN TURKEY, HAS STARTED IN VOLGODONSK

 

Atommash plant in Volgodonsk (branch of AEM-Technologies JSC, a part of Atomenergomash, the machine-building division of Rosatom) has shipped the steam generators for Unit 1 of Akkuyu NPP (Turkey). Within a few days four steam generators weighing 365 tons each will be outbound.  The equipment set is to overcome 3000 km on the way to the construction site of Akkuyu NPP, the first nuclear power plant in Turkey. Steam generators are nuclear safety critical equipment of the reactor primary circuit. The NPP project includes four power units with Russian generation 3+ VVER reactor plants. The capacity of each power unit is 1200 MW.  Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry implemented under the Build-Own-Operate model.
