November 1, 2022, Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – Festive events dedicated to the Republic Day took place at Akkuyu NPP Site.


At the end of their shift, the construction site workers unfurled a giant Turkish flag and stood in the shape of figure "29" at the Eastern Cargo Terminal.


Mesut Yuzugullu, Deputy Production Director of TSM Enerji: "Workers of our Construction & Installation Directorate were happy to participate in this event, since the flag has a sacred meaning for each Turkish citizen. Our entire team is working hard on Akkuyu NPP construction to bring closer the day when the first Turkish nuclear power plant will become operational and provide our country with energy.  By working at the largest nuclear construction site in the world, we are engaged in a great project every day".


Having congratulated all project employees on the Republic Day, Anastasia Zoteeva, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC commented on the event: "October 29 is the main national holiday of the Republic of Turkey, which has a great significance for all Turkish citizens. Akkuyu NPP builders eagerly responded to the proposal to unfurl a giant flag at the site. Since works are in full swing in every area, the Eastern Cargo Terminal turned out to be the most appropriate venue for the event. The on-site festive events took place amid a very friendly environment. Many thousands of our project's staff supported these events, since we are a single team of professionals which contributes to development and prosperity of Turkey through their daily work".


On the Republic Day, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC also arranged a special construction site tour for children of the project employees. 28 children accompanied by their parents participated in the tour. Denis Sezemin, Director for Construction and Industrial Engineering of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, and Maksim Kucherenko, Head of the Capital Construction Directorate of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, acted as their tour guides.


The tour started with a briefing on occupational safety and rules of conduct at the Akkuyu NPP Construction Site. The first place shown to the children was the Eastern Cargo Terminal, where oversized equipment for the NPP under construction is unloaded. Then, the children were taken to Liebherr LR 13000 crawler crane, the most powerful construction crane in the world. The children even managed to sit in the crane operator seat and took memorable pictures with builders of the first Turkish NPP, whom the children presented their drawings as a sign of gratitude.


Following the crane examination, children also visited Akkuyu NPP fire station. Various firefighting equipment was shown to the children who were also told about activities and achievements of the firefighters, and about the assistance the firefighters provided to the fire services of Mersin Province in the summer, during wildfire season.


The construction site visitors also visited a viewpoint located at the highest point of 200 meters above sea level. From here, the children observed the scale of construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey.
