Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR held a workshop for suppliers of the Akkuyu NPP project in the framework of the VI International Nuclear Power Plants Summit in Istanbul

A workshop for suppliers of the Akkuyu NPP project organized by Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC project company was held on March 5, 2019 in Istanbul in the framework of the VI International Nuclear Power Plants Summit (INPPS Expo).

Mr. İbrahim Halil Dere, Nuclear Energy General Director in Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Republic of Turkey, gave a welcome speech and said, "Today nuclear power for Turkey is a necessity rather than an option. Thanks to the NPP construction and operation, our country joins the states of the "atomic club."

Mr. Anton Dedusenko, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Management of Projects of JSC Rusatom Energy International, delivered a welcome address in turn and noted the progress of the Akkuyu NPP project. "We are now completing the foundation slab of the reactor building of plant's Unit 1, getting ready to start erecting the outside walls of the reactor building, and at the same time constructing the concrete beds for the reactor auxiliary building and emergency control room building. Work on the second power unit is in progress, too. In particular, a limited work permit for Unit 2 was obtained in late autumn of 2018. Engineering survey at the site is in progress. At the next stage, we are planning to get a construction license for the power unit and start concreting its foundation slab. In a separate development, we are preparing a package of documents for the TAEK for Unit 3 in order to obtain construction authorizations. The Akkuyu NPP project schedule is quite packed and it implies a one-year interval for commissioning of the power units".

According to Mr. Dedusenko, it is critical for Rosatom to develop an efficient information and business interface with suppliers. "We have already been working with many Turkish companies, but the pace of the project opens the potential for a broader cooperation. In this regard, this workshop is of extreme importance for us," the speaker added.

Representatives of the following Rosatom's enterprises took part in the workshop: Rusatom Energy International, AKKUYU NUCLEAR, Rosatom's regional centre in the MENA, and JSC CONCERN TITAN-2.

The speakers told the audience about Rosatom, status of the Akkuyu NPP project, available and scheduled purchases for the project, Rosatom's procurement system, and training system for suppliers put in practice by the Corporate Academy of Rosatom together with Turkish partners. In the framework of the workshop, the speakers gave answers to questions of the audience.

The round table aroused much interest ‑ over 220 persons attended the event.
