Russia and United States identify areas of cooperation in nuclear industry

Russia and the United States had identified three areas of global cooperation in the nuclear industry related science, said the General Director of the state corporation "Rosatom" Sergey Kiriyenko following the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries in the framework of the IAEA General Conference which is held nowadays in Vienna. "We attach great importance to the signed agreement. We identified three main areas of work - the development of new technologies in nuclear power, safety and waste management, as well as the use of non-power nuclear technologies", said the state corporation head.

"Rosatom" Deputy General Director Vyacheslav Pershukov said that in the near future there would be teamed up a working group to determine the specific cooperation projects by the end of the year. He noted that what was meant here is projects in «mega science», for example, the Multi-Purpose Fast Research Reactor (MFRR), which would be very difficult for any country to implement them alone.
